The Diploma in Education and Training (DET) is an initial teacher training qualification, studied at QCF Level 5, for teaching in Further Education (FE) and the lifelong learning sector of education in the United Kingdom. This qualification replaces the former Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector.

The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, formerly known as Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS), is an industry-standard qualification for those currently teaching or aiming to teach in the post-16 sector. This qualification will assist individual trainees to become qualified teachers. This Level 5 teaching qualification also allows learners to apply for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status, enabling them to become teachers in state-owned schools in the UK and overseas.

Our Level 5 DET qualification is accredited by CPD UK and delivered by blended (80% online and 20% physical) mode. This course will enhance professionalism and upgrade teaching qualification regardless of subject expertise – whether you teach basic education subjects or train professionals for various skills development

Duration and Delivery

The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training course is designed to be completed by blended mode within 6- 9 months depending on individual previous experience and dedication to the course. This Level 5 DET course is delivered through our dedicated and fully interactive LMS whereby learners are provided with online tutoring and supported with regular videotelephony discussion on MS Teams.

Assessment and Verification

All modules that make up our Level 5 DET are internally assessed by our qualified assessors and externally verified by the awarding organisation. The assessment takes the form of written assignments, detailed feedback, individual corrections, and practical guidance.

The practical requirements of this course include 250 hours of recorded teaching practice and at least 10 observations (one hour each), which can be satisfied either through recording your teaching sessions or having your assessor observe your teaching sessions and document your performance in writing.

Progression

Successful completion of this teaching diploma enables graduates to enhance their career profile and apply for the UK QTLS status. It means they can be employed as a state schoolteacher in the 14+ sector (for GCSE, A-Level students, vocational and professional development training).
